In gay Tumblr culture, there is a hierarchy, or group, that one can get labeled into. You know, if you were to take it seriously.
Rung 1: The Mean Boys. The A-Gays. The guys that everyone either wants to be, wants to date, or loves to hate. They are ridiculously good looking and have the bodies of Greek gods. Their age ranges from early to late 20’s, or they have that ‘mature’ look. Their posts consist of pictures of themselves partying, working out, or getting buck wild. Almost everything they post, even if just one little word, will get dozens or more Likes/Reblogs. You will find them only being friends with or talk to others of their kind.
Rung 2: These are the Rung 1 wannabes. The B-Gays. The most common clique. They are also good looking, but don’t have the bodies, or at least as great as A-Gays. They have about as much Followers as Rung 1, but not quite the same amount of Likes/Reblogs. They dress in the latest trends and love to take self-pics, either with Iphones or webcams. They like to make ‘thought-provoking’ posts or videos to get as many Likes as possible. When they open up a Tinychat, it’s them, a few B-Gays, and the rest E-Gays (see below). They are the 2nd most sought after group, because no one can touch the A-Gays. Their age typically ranges from 18-23.
Rung 3: The C-Gays. These are the Boy-Next-Door types. They are also really good looking, but nowhere near as popular as the A’s and B’s, and are quite humble. They have their own little clique, but are quite friendly and will be friends with anyone. They don’t care about popularity, and only make posts when they have something meaningful to say. One day their posts will get a lot of Reblogs, the next back to none. They dress in comfortable, yet stylish clothes. You can find their posts about their latest road trips or philanthropy work. One day they will change the world. The other Rungs somewhat respect them.
Rung 4: The D-Gays. These are the A-Gays-In-Training. They are quite young, ranging from 16-19. A lot I tend to notice are quite short. They are also ridiculously good looking, and one day will take over the top of the Rung when the A-Gays retire and grow old and wrinkly. They tend to have little to no personality. They never write posts, but only Reblog pictures or quotes. Nobody really knows anything about them. Once they post a picture of themselves, it will get Likes/Reblogs like crazy.
Rung 5: The E-Gays. They are average looking, kind of strange and suck up to the B-Gays, but yet oddly enough are mildly accepted into the B-Gays group, even though the B-Gays sort of look down on them. Think Gretchen Wieners. They take pictures or posts for the sole purpose of getting many Likes, and want others to give them a Shout-Out. They madly crave fame. They write emotional posts because they believe their life sucks and something is always there to ruin it. Their mood is hit or miss. Their ages vary.
Rung 6: The F-Gays. They are a very strange, thirsty group. They will go around trying to fit in with the other Rungs, but never quite make it. When someone from the other Rungs post a shirtless or risqué picture, they are the first ones to Like or Comment on it. Everyone somewhat knows who they are, and are told to avoid them. Some are verrrrry weird and creepy, and others just want to make friends, but sadly aren’t given the time of day.
The point of this post was just for humor, although some will take it seriously. But the lesson is, no matter which Rung you think you fit in, always remember that out in the real world, it doesn’t matter. You can be popular on Tumblr, but outside, no one cares. You can be totally hot on Tumblr, but we all know Photoshop does wonders. In the real world, this social hierarchy disintegrates. Learn to be yourself. Accept everyone for who they are. Don’t think of yourself as lower or higher than anyone else. Being at the top of the Rung doesn’t always last. Always remember, we are all the same, going through the same battles.
